After a 32-year career as a Flight Attendant with Air Canada, Marcia Barhydt took a huge leap and started her own company, Willowtree, and became a customer service trainer. "I had no idea what I was doing and I was certain that I'd never be able to pull it all together. But I did".
Marcia's work evolved to include writing. She started writing a bi-weekly customer service column for The Brampton News in October 2006 and then was asked by her editor to freelance for him. "The highlight of my year was covering a lunch with Gloria Steinem as the keynote. And I had the chance to meet her and chat briefly too! It was a moment in my life."
When Marcia met Timeless Woman publisher Diana Boyes, "I was delighted that Diana wanted me to be a monthly contributor. It was my first opportunity to write opinion pieces."
Now Marcia is a proud contributor to 3 digital magazines, Kalon Women, WE Magazine for Women and Women's Post and a proud contributor to BoomerCafé. She also writes profiles of new members of Roaring Women, a national woman's networking and support group.
Writing and editing marketing materials for other business owners, including website content, brochures and flyers fill the rest of Marcia's day. She has begun writing a 2nd book, "One Small Voice" which will be a collection of her articles from Kalon Women and WE Magazine for Women. "We may be only one small voice, but together we can all eliminate ageism and learn to tap into the wisdom and the value we have at this age."
Marcia lives in Brampton and is the proud mother of 2 grown daughters, Heather and Allison, and the even prouder grandmother of her 3 "perfect granddaughters".
The future Marcia? “My book, Celebrate Age! It's my rants, raves, observations and thoughts about life and the issues that need to be addressed, challenged and celebrated. I speak to women's groups about how incredibly wonderful this stage of our lives is. I want all women to know how wise and capable we are. I had no idea of how much I was capable of doing. I want all women to know that they can do it too. I want women to truly celebrate the better half of their lives."
